Week 15 happenings ...

High lights of the week include Charlie becoming more vocal and wanting to be mobile, Carter improving her penmanship, Charlie and I getting pink eye and my battle with a nasty sinus infection.  Is it spring yet?!

Daddy loves me.  So does Mommy.  And Carter.  And my grandparents.  And my daycare teachers.  And my uncles and aunts.  That's what you call lucky!

We've got a kiddo on the mend (Charlie had a yucky cough and runny nose this week), and a child on the downhill slide (Carter caught Charlie's yuck and got an ear infection).  So it's been a week of snuggles and lovin's!

Poor Charlie!  With two girls in the house and him still being little, he's subject to such great literary works as "Pinkalicious!"

Tuesday evening was Charlie's first time sitting at the dinner table!  He usually hangs out in his bouncer while we eat, but he's now able to sit with us (eating with us is still a couple weeks away).  He loved seeing all the action!

Official report: it's broken

The daycare calls us about everything: Charlie's fussy - do you have any suggestions?  Carter's running a bit of a temp - what should we do?

So when I picked the kiddo's up Wednesday, and saw Carter being pulled around the gym in a wagon by her buddies, pulling her blankie, I wondered what was up.  She came to me holding her left wrist.  Her teacher said she'd hurt it at preschool.  I figured she was faking, cause that's kinda Carter's MO at times, but wanted to check it out.

Pre-school said the kids were playing outside on the "snow hills," and Carter was pushed by another boy.  She fell, apparently bearing the weight on her left hand.

At Urgent Care, we did x-rays.  It didn't look fractured or broken.  The nurse put her in a splint for the evening, and told me the radiologist would check it out in the morning and get back to us.

Thursday morning, Andy called to tell me it was indeed broken.  He took her downtown to the Orthopedic Surgeon to determine what to do next.  He put her in a removable cast, pretty much a brace with Velcro, that she'll wear for 4 weeks.  She told me the three rules: "One: you have to wear it all the time.  Two: You can't take it off or get it wet.  And three: No hitting with it."  All good rules!

Her biggest concern was that people "wouldn't like" her.  So we talked about sympathy and "milking it," and I'm sure she'll catch on quickly!  It doesn't seem to bother her too much.  She's been wearing short sleeves, just because they're easier to maneuver.  The coat's a pain, but we're working with it.  She's been staying indoors when the kids go outside to play at daycare.  She gets to help make copies and hang out with her teachers - all things she loves!  And she was cautious and careful at dance and gymnasties.

I don't know ... that hair looks red to me!  Or at least Carter-brand red!

Charlie is SO BIG!  Since he's been actively trying to sit up, we put him in his high chair at the table, just to see what he'd think.  He LOVED it!

... and she did fabulous!  Carter's first day of community basketball was this morning, for 4-5 year olds.  Unlike soccer, we couldn't really practice much for basketball prior to going, with the basketball hoop covered in snow and sub-zero temperatures.  So we talked about sportsmanship, basic rules and not throwing fits.  She must have heard every word!

We were first there, and she got to run around for a bit.  During pre-game warm-up's/practice, she was the first on her team to make a basket.  She couldn't have been happier with herself!  During the game, she got to play the first and third 10 minutes (the girls swap in and out every "quarter"), and part of the final four 10 minute period.  She ran back and forth, put her arms up to block the ball, and she made two more baskets for her team.  She did great, and we were so proud of her!

We thought Carter was interesting and exciting; Charlie did not.  He fell asleep within 10 minutes of the first whistle.

Week by week, Charlie stops being an "infant" and is turning more into a baby.  He's doing a terrific job holding his head up, and he's started to attempt to pull himself up to a sitting position with assistance (if he's laying on the floor, lovingly watching you, if you hold his hands, he'll attempt to pull himself up).  He's also becoming quite the chatterbox.  If you talk to him, he will almost always "talk" back.  And he continues to have the sweetest, cutest smile ever!

And Carter's big news: she started community league basketball for 4-5 year olds, and did fantastic (more to come)!!!

We broke out Scrabble, Jr. this week.  Really, it was Andy and I playing Scrabble, and Carter giggling about their attempted cheating ...

1.1.10 019.JPG

Please note along the right side: "Carebears" is NOT a playable Scrabble word.  It is a proper noun, a name, and unaccepted by game rules.  Cheaters.  And it cannot touch "yams" to make "Carebearsyams."  Carter and Andy are stinky cheaters.

We also broke out the BIG puzzle.  300 pieces and two very thoughtful Chalupa's.  Good luck, guys!

This afternoon, we visited Corey, Amber and Baby Owen.  He's adorable, but he's tinyI  Especially compared to our Godzilla-baby!

That's little Owen!  He's a cute little guy!  And so good!  I think Corey and Amber are lying about his long nights!

Charlie's hit a growth spurt, not physically but developmentally.  Suddenly, he's holding his head high during tummy time, and he likes to "chatter."

Sorry for all the "artsy" pictures.  My week's big happening is that my new digital SLR camera arrived, and I spent the week playing.  Enjoy my CUTE subjects!
