FAN-freakin'-TASTIC!
Our cabinets are going up .. nicely, I might add!
.. so where should we stash the Jelly Belly's and other snacks???
LOVE IT! We get more excited every time something new pops up!

No good!
We had to scale back some of our painting plans, due to the additional $1,000 it would have cost us (!!!). We had intended to paint one wall a pale green'ish and the other three walls pink, but went all pink to save money. The painter misinterpreted this as the one green wall being pink, and the three pink walls being unpainted. So, in theory, we've paid $200 for this room to be 1/4 painted.
I'm as thrilled as Carter (see below) about it.

The pink's so great that I'd love to have it on all 4 walls! Like, now!
Carter, at 8:00, didn't care if walls were pink, or green, or existent! She was tired and wanted to go to bed! It took bears x2 to keep her calm(er)!
First it was texture, then primer, then taping off areas ..
Now .. here is day one of the colorful Chalupa house!

"Sand Dollar" goes through out the front part of the first floor (the living room, entry way and Carter's playroom) and upstairs into the office and upstairs hallway. "Torch Flame," that gorgeous yellow (Andy says it's orange!!) goes through out the cozy, dinette and kitchen. That is the yellow I have seen in my head for months! I LOVE IT!

"Sand dollar" in the office, with our new light fixture. Very regal!
In the back, you can see our bedroom slate, which will rock with our mission cherry furniture and new comforter. Carter, however, apparently doesn't love it as much as we do! Or, maybe she was PO'ed about not being able to run around and touch walls! Whatever!
When I saw these red sandals, they called my name and I had to have them.
I guess Carter feels the same way! She goes back into our bedroom, gets in the closet and drags them out, almost daily!

Shoes! Shoes! SHOES!
Oh my God! Shoes!
So we returned home, to our house, with a whole lotta fumes and white walls! I guess the color comes Monday???
We dropped off load #1 of lights, and got load #2 - the last one! - of lights this evening!
No more lights!

The Chalupa Family, ready to move!

A few Chalupa's and a whole lotta boxes

See - too many choices!
Lights, lights, lights!!
Carter and Grandma Linda picked homegrown punpkins this morning! Carter enjoyed tromping out into the garden and lugging her "heafy" punpkin around the yard!

That's the one!

"Heafy!" she declared!

Grandma, Daddy and Carter clean up the punpkins

My favorites!

How CUTE is THIS?!?
At Grandma and Grandpa Chalupa's, Carter and Courtney got to run and play .. and run .. and run .. and run!

T R O U B L E !
CUTE and NAUGHTY!
This afternoon - with Carter's amazingly wonderful and fantastic help - we picked 14 of the 22 lighting fixtures for the new house.
There were lots.
And it was expensive.
Carter on the Mountain of Lights
Heading home for a weekend with Grandmas and Poppys.
Rock and Roll!
It's all just a matter of time now - the stuff has arrived!

Doors, doors, and more doors!

Some part of the kitchen counter top

More wood and carpet padding

Left - our bathroom counter top
Right - Carter's bathroom counter op

Laminate flooring for the first floor and closet shelves
Tiling for the bathrooms
We have two new-and-white garage doors, and a shipment of "finishing work" to be arriving at any time!
The painter has also textured in preparation of painting later this week or early next.

Ohh la la! Doors!

The new "thing" is puzzles. Carter got a "bucket-O-puzzles" for Christmas and hasn't really been interested until this week. Now she's all over them! There are about a dozen puzzles, with different colors and shapes, with two to four pieces per puzzle. She gets super mad when the pieces don't slide together, but then remembers to lift and press them together.
She's so proud when she gets them together! She says, "I did it!"
"I did it!"

Work it, girl! You can do it!
"WOW!"
Slowly but surely, we're getting the alphabet!
She's smart because of the new pink-and-black shirt she got for her bday!
Talk about spoiled! I do my "birthday princess" thing for a couple days, but today was all Carter, all day, non-stop .. and she ate up every moment of it!
We had monkey bread for breakfast (but she opted for Shredded Wheat cereal - which says we're doing something right as parents when your kid chooses wheat over sugar!).
She and Daddy took a wagon ride to the park in the morning.
She got two books before nap: Mickey's Birthday Surprise and the Great Gracie Chase!
She and Mommy went to the Science Center in the afternoon.
She got to go "finning" in the pool in the early evening.
Instead of eating the majority of her dinner, she totally got away with a few carrots and the meat from her sandwich, and then ate the frosting off a birthday cupcake.
We opened Mommy and Daddy gifts - she now has enough clothing to get her through her teen's.
She got to watch a Mickey and an Elmo cartoon!
And we did "Rock the Baby" about a dozen times before bed!
That's what birthday's are for! And since she's done so much for us in her short-but-sweet two years, spoiling her rotten and making her every whim come true today is the least we could do! I live to spoil, and that's exactly what I did today!
.. is this how I got to be the Birthday Princess?!?

The "early gift:" Miky Mou! She drug him everywhere with us today!

She was terrified of the animated bugs at the Science Center!

"BUBBIES!!"

Budda and our Baby Budda!

Cheesers!

Daddy squirting water on the giggle-box birthday girl!

"PLASH!"

She tried to spit water at Daddy, but just couldn't do it!

BLOW!

"MESSY! Mommy, messy!!"

"Look! Monkey!"

.. really, she was more interested in the orange and white tissue paper than the clothing!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARTER KAY! Mommy and Daddy LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!
We couldn't have asked for a nicer, happier day!!!
In the words of Oprah, today was an "I'm thankful" day!
It started out with singing of "MommyDaddy! DaddyMommy!" and a smile from our birthday girl. We all got ready, and had powdered dough-nut holes for breakfast, then played around the house.
We went to the park and Daddy and Carter played while I got out our birthday stuff.
Little by little, our beloved friends and family trickled in. Kelly and Erin Hassert from our day care, Stephanie and Isaac, Grandma and Grandpa Chalupa, Uncle Brian, Aunt Anna and Cousin Courtney, Rory and Andy, and Shane, Kelsey, Grant and Collin. There were kiddo's everywhere!
We played at the park, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and then we ate cake! Overall, it was much cleaner than last year, but still a bit messy! Then we gathered for gift opening, and then said our goodbyes.
It was the perfect day! I couldn't have asked for more!

Crazies on the Truck! Beep, Beep!

Andy, Carter, Stephanie and Isaac on the weird, unstable playground thingys!

Call it "Posies" or "Ashes, Ashes," it's pretty stinkin' cute!

Carter loves Isaac!

"Twooo!" and "Birfday!" were the words on the day!

Our "branch" of the Chalupa Tree
Who'd have guessed we'd have survived two years -- 730 days -- of parenthood? I'd never have imagined we'd get through some of our struggles and laugh to hard at our sillies, and marvel at so many of our triumphs. But here we are, with a beautiful, intelligent, loving and caring Cheeser who's totally changed our way of and purpose of life. Without a moment's hesitation or a single second thought, both Andy and I would do absolutely anything for this Little Girl. She's has our hearts, and we're wrapped around her sweet, little finger!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARTER KAY! WE LOVE YA!!
Guess what tomorrow is?!?

Carter and I picked out birthday balloons - 10 all together - and literally had to fight them into the car. She giggled the entire ride home! She loved the "fight!"
We took the nice, sunny and cool day to enjoy the fair together today!
The fair is just as good as Christmas but with better food!
We ate, rode rides, checked out the booths at the Varied Industry Building, ate some more, discovered some really cool animals, and then crashed and burned!
To another wonderful Iowa State Fair experience!!

.. it is Iowa, after all!

The Giant Slide - Andy and Carter are getting ready to lay down the mat, on the right ..

There they go! Barf!!

"MO! MOOOR!!!" she repeated at the bottom!

We checked out the animal barns, and got to pet some of the goats. They nibbled on Carter's fingers, but she just giggled!

Around 11'ish, Carter began to cry and whined "suppie," for supper! We asked her what she wanted: a corn dog, a sandwich, pickles. And girlfriend chose pickles! She truly is my kid!

While eating our pickles (YUMMM! by the way!!), I watched people pass by, and all of a sudden I noticed this little girl starring at me. It occurred to me, as I starred back at the cutie patootie, that it was Courtney! She'd noticed me among all of the people! Andy hailed them down, and we chatted about the fair, the cooler incident, and tomorrow's party!

Carter and I explored the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse "Haunted" House ride. It wasn't really scary, but it was kinda weird, with fun-mirrors and moving floors. I don't really get it, but it was Mickey, and it was fun!

She'd didn't miss a beat: "Donl DUCK!" she yelled when she saw this!

.. and we do love Miky Mou!

Fair Family!

Of course we wouldn't miss the carousel! Carter smiled and waved to Daddy as we circled around
After the carousel, we got another treat (fried cheese and lemonade!), and suddenly realized that the Wild Child was out! That's the sign of a good day!
Barstools and bookcases - why is this so hard???
I know exactly what I want! But I can't find either easily! I want a couple of barstools that are cute, comfy and cheap for the island in the kitchen. I don't want to spend $150 each on them! That's insane!
And I want three freakin' bookcases for the kitchen and cozy area that are 8'ish feet tall and are cherry colored. And I'd like a couple for the parlor that are 36 inches tall, in an oak'ish color.
Is that so stinkin' hard?!?
It's been impossible to find anything! All the stools I like are way overpriced, and I refuse to pay that much for 4 spindles and a flat chunk of wood! And bookcases - they're all frilly and ornate! Wrong!
But today .. it was like the JACKPOT!!
I found clearancd stools at Pier 1 (heaven bless the end of the season!) that were about 1/2 price - both will cost about $160! That's what I was finding one to cost everywhere else! A deal .. at Pier 1! Crazy! And Target has some great bookcases that are meant to be placed side by side and mix-matched. We could put 1 8 foot with 2 6 footer's, or 2 3 footer's with 2 8 footer's! The sky's the limit, but I'm totally happy with two 8 foot shelves on either side of the big opening into the living room, and a couple 3 footer's for the office!! Yeah!
I'm not choosy or picky .. I just want what I want!

My barstool and bookcase scouts .. tiring in the great search at Target!
Carter got the honors of toting the bread, but soon gave up and passed her groceries off to Daddy!
WINNERS! The bookcases that will fill our house! A couple talls and a couple smalls! Yeah!
I love Sammy. If I were a cat, I'd be Sammy. He does nothing but sleeps and eats all day long, and then he runs at night. He's moody and craps on the bed when he doesn't get his way, and he's a whiny crier when there's a ton of people around.
I love him, don't get me wrong. But he has contributed none to the survival or working order of our home. Ever. Poops, eats, sheds. That's about it.
Today was no exception. I've been packing a room a day (I ROCK! IT's SUCKED THIS WEEK, BUT IT'll TOTALLY BE WORTH IT WHEN IT's MOVING TIME!!) and I'd gotten to the laundry room - his room. As I'd pack, he'd follow me around the house. I packed, took a couple boxed out to the garage, then checked something I'd remembered online. When I returned to the laundry room, I couldn't find him. Then, a furry, lazy, fat head popped out of the boxed of towels I'd been packing.
There was Sammy, always helpful!

Today, a mysterious box showed up on our doorstep, and it was addressed to Ms. Carter Kay Chalupa.
What on Earth could Carter have gotten???
WHATEVER! I never get mail - unless it's bills, bills, bills - and I NEVER get good things, like mystery boxes!!
Andy golfed for the evening, so Carter and I were left to our own devices - which is always fun times for all! We monkied around and had supper ..
Then Carter noticed The Boxes.
Upon opening them, we discovered they were birthday gifts from Brian, Carrie and Emma Lueck! An adorable Minny Mouse outfit (so cute!) and the giggle-sounds doctor kit. I do have to send an extra thank you for the check up kit to our good friends .. my ears, eyes and nose are in stellar condition .. my patience, however, leaves much to be desired!

Carter's two-year "mug shot!" And what a mug it is!

We played with the kitty until he could no longer stand us! Poor thing!
We stopped at Palmer's for take out for supper (I know, I know .. not really a part of the Program, but I had a 1/2 Market Turkey with veggies and a water .. and 3/4 of this brownie .. so I guess it's 50/50 on this choice!), and of course we got a treat! We were both pretty excited about the brownie!!

And there are the boxes ..

It's a Silly Sounds Checkup Kit! We played doctor all night, and had a blast!
THANK YOU Lueck's for thinking of us! We appreciate it very, very much! Love ya!!!
x
Chad's drywallers were hard at it today.
It's crazy! I knew that there'd be walls and it'd look like a house and everything, but I'd gotten so used to slipping between beams to get from one room to another. I came up the stairs into the parlor and I was awe-struck! I had to walk around the hall to get to my bathroom! Weird!
After checking up on progress, we went to check out our pond. It was honestly about 10 degrees cooler sitting by the water's edge, and it was so peaceful! "Like being back home," Andy has said. You do kinda forget about everything hectic in the world when you're there. Hopefully that continues when we're actually living there! Carter played in the dirt, tossed rocks in the pond, and "wow'ed" over the ducks. The sun began to set, and all was perfect in the world.
.. and I never wanted nothing more ..

Our drywalled parlor/office and our bathtub! Awesome, huh???
The serene and peaceful view from the pond. Quack! Quack!

Miss Messy, playing in the dirt

You can already tell that our current "park-y" time will be replaced with "pond" time once we move! She loves playing here! I guess that's a good sign!

This will be home soon!
On the drive home, we ran into this. In how many places to you actually have to stop for ducks?!?
Duck crossing .. Carter loves duckies .. it's a sign! This is where we're meant to be! We're on track!
August has flown by, and we'll be moving very soon! In about a month, to be exact.
So, in the final week of sumer vacation, I have come to the brilliant conclusion that I am going to pack all of the stuff we don't use. Like my scrapbooks and Andy's computer parts and such. I'm tackling room by room, sorting through everything. It either gets packed in a box and labeled effectively, or put in the Good Will or garbage pile.
Serious "spring time" cleaning .. in August!

This is the end of day one: the kitchen and hallway closets have been cleaned out. Tomorrow the bedrooms and Wednesday, the Office .. blaaaaah!
Andy and I are complete opposites. I'm the artsy, he's the brains. I'm the loud, he's the quiet. I'm the wild, he's the conservative.
So how in the world are we supposed to agree on paint colors for the entire house?!?
I went through Andy 2's paint sampler extravaganza and found shades of what I'd like for all the rooms. Then I went to Home Depot and got a few variants of all the colors, so Andy could have a voice in the process, too.
Ironically enough, we picked all of the same colors for all but one room. We're still undecided on the master bathroom. We can't find "the shade" yet.
Next, we cut out the colors and taped them in the windows of each room. The guys can still come and go and do what they need to, and we can look at the colors when ever we're at the house and digest the idea.
Smart, huh?!?

Buttery yellow (left) for the kitchen, dining room and cozy and the same orange in the accent pillows from the living room couches in the laundry and bathroom! Love it!
While we were there, Andy - with Carter's supervision - checked out the A/C. If it ain't working, I ain't moving!
"My game's improved a lot this summer," said Andy.
He's the Tiger Woods of golf .. at least around our house he is!
So, he gave Carter a couple how-to-tips.

"You're grip is horrible! Look at this .." and Andy showed her how to hold the club properly
"I would love to go golfing with you one day," Andy affectionately told her
DUH - it's the IOWA STATE FAIR! It IS fun!
Mackenzie gets, like, one Saturday off all summer, and we were lucky enough to accompany her and Natalie (who'll be 5 years old in September!) to the fair.
Because it was literally 100 degrees today, we got there early - 8:30am - and fair'ed all day! We saw animals and exhibits, rode ride, played, and of course, we ate! We had breakfast sandwiches, Elephant Ears, fried pickles, turkey tenderloins, eggs rolls and Dippin' Dots! So good! After nearly a month of healthy eating, I think today's "free day" may kill me tomorrow! But it was worth it!
The girls had a ball together! Natalie's such an "older sister," and takes such good care of Carter! She holds her hand and helps her with drinks and things. And they always giggle and smile when they're together! And we adore Mackenzie, too! She's such a hoot to do things with! Like she said, "we have very similar personalities" - sorry every one else! - and I guess that's why we love her!
We had a delightful day, which actually wasn't too hot! It didn't get yucky-hot until about 11:30, and we left at 12:30'ish! We couldn't have planned it much better! We're going to nap, lay around, and maybe pop a couple TUMS!
Happy Fairing's All!

The girls, 8:30am

Natalie and Mackenzie on the Giant Slide. It makes me nervous with Carter, so we're leaving the slide to Daddy next week! But those two loved it!

"LET's GET SOMETHING YUMMY TO EAT!!"

My new State Fair try: the Elephant Ear. The guy assured me, wink wink, "this one's low calorie!" Yeah, I could totally feel the pounds melting away!

SO GOOD!

Natalie liked the powdered sugar ..

.. and so did Carter!

Mommy's favorite treat of the day: the Fried Pickles! They were almost as good as the disgusted look on Natalie's face. That girl really dislikes pickles!

The first tattoo: Daddy's beloved Cyclones! Both girls had about a dozen by the end of the morning!

Carousel rides! Natalie and Mackenzie

Round and round! Carter and Mommy

Bear Wheel rides! Weee!

Carter doesn't look so sure, does she?!

The food finale: Dippin' Dots. Natalie choose strawberry cheese cake, while Carter enjoyed " 'nana"

I LOVE THE FAIR!!

She barely made it off the fair grounds before crashing.
But she woke up to play hand shake, or something, in the back seat with Natalie!
What cute and adorable and ornery Cheesers!
I picked up Carter this afternoon (getting back into a routine has not been easy for either of us!), and she was a complete nerd-ball! She was silly, and goofy, and wanted to hug, hug, hug! I'd be crazy to turn that down!

My Carter Kay - sweet and silly, but kind and serious, too!

Classic "Cheeser Carter," complete with smiley teeth!

The "Courtney" look - Courtney squeezes her jaw tightly and smiles that naughty grin just like this! CUTE!

Fish-sticks Carter
The Sad Face. She likes to make her "Sad" and "Happy" faces now! This one is sad, but she isn't!
Mommy's Girl!
So, without Carter's help, I finished my project. I took 72 8th grade level vocabulary words (that my kids would never have used), will make transparencies of them, and we'll discuss two words a week through the year. As we discuss a word, I will post it to keep in in their minds, and we'll have the infamous Fish Bowl Vocabulary Test at the end of each quarter (yeah - that's a Mr. Zahs test - remember 7th grade Iowa History???)
I love it, and I'm proud of it, and I know if it gets one word into one kid's vocabulary, then I've done what I intended. We're gonna rock the ITBS this year!
... they'll love it, too, don't ya think???
While I was working on some school things (a visual vocabulary word wall - sounds riveting, doesn't it?!), Carter found the light-up, bouncy ball. She tossed it around, then tossed it near the computer. I'd been working along, and had completed about 30 of my vocabulary cards (word, definition, mnemonic picture), and then she hit the power button, and they were all gone.
I sure hope that ball's worth it, Little One, cause I nearly strangled you!
She did apologize and loved up to me extra good!

BAWL!
Stupid thing!
It actually wasn't too bad - the computer auto-saved most of my words.
But still!
My, they start driver's ed earlier and earlier every year!!
I got shot gun!!
Wow! While we were gone, we got a basement!
Chad framed the basement and it looks awesome! Andy had been worrying about the theater room, despite saying he wasn't (a wife knows, honey). But he and Chad walked out ideas and plans, and Chad's framing looks awesome! We'll have plenty of room for a cute and comfy theater room. The game room is monstrous, and we'll have our storage area under the stairs. Perfect!
Plumbing and electrical continues this week. There are wires and wires everywhere! It's crazy!
The drywallers come in next Monday to hang, and they will mud and tape on Tuesday.
Then, we move in!!!
I'm not sure what happens next, but I am sure it will happen quickly!
This is what will be our kitchen light! And a billion wires!

I like the cool criss-cross pattern in the living room! Awesome!
The framed-out basement!
When Carter was just so little, I used to try and rock and sing with her. She liked the "rocking" part, and she enjoyed the "singing" part, but when put together, she knew they meant trouble and wasn't having it!
But now, she loves "Rock a Baby!" She will curl up in my elbow, tuck her head against my chest and smile and say, "Mommy! Rock a Baby!" And then we rock and sing silly songs. She could do it again and again, all night!
Rock a Baby!
Grandma and Poppy took us to Burlington this morning for our trip to Fun City! Fun City is this big ol' park with race cars, an arcade, indoor and outdoor water parks for big and small, and a casino -- http://www.onefuncity.com/
We played at Huck's Harbor, the indoor area. It appeared to be broken into two areas: a small and big area, but all for little fry's. The area we played in was never any deeper than 1 foot! It was perfect! There were sprinklers and sprayers and dump buckets, frog slides, lizard stairs, and ladders and slides everywhere! It was great!
We can't wait to go back!!
The frog slide was perfect for Carter. Slippery and water and fun, but not too big to be scary!

The indoor park! I - at 27 - can't wait to go back!!
The perfect end to the perfect day - a Rice Krispy Treat!
What a great day!!!
Andy said it best: "Grandparents are meant to spoil!" And they love it!
Carter and I spent the day with Grandma and Poppy. Grandma had dug some toys out of the toy box, including some puppets that made Carter belly-giggle and laugh! They also had "moc-a-let milk" and a Mickey cake for her!
Spoiled rotten!
She also learned a great trick: escape! I woke up Monday morning to "Gramma!", a little giggle, and Carter, out running around! When I asked her if she'd show me how she got out, she smiled and shook her head no!
Spoiled rotten naughty!
Carter would yell "BIIIIIEE!" and Grandma would feed him a piece of paper. "The puppet" would spit it back out and Carter would wail and giggle! Look at that smile!

The Mickey cake! Very cute and yummy, but a total mess!
Carter double-fisting the cake! She couldn't eat it fast enough!
It was a cool morning, so last night Andy turned off the A/C. It was nice to get some fresh air in the house, and it was a cozy, cool night's sleep.
This afternoon, however, has sucked! It's not only hot, but it's humid! We're all sweating in places we shouldn't sweat in!
Update: 9:00pm - I finally got Scrooge to turn the air back on! It was mostly prompted by this incident with Carter ..
When it's really warm, we sometimes skip Carter's jammies. I guess Carter was so hot, she took her naked-ness one step further, going 3 sheets to the wind!
Andy and Carter had a special Daddy/Carter day today!
They packed up for the zoo, then played int he backyard together while I went shopping. Everyone wins!
They had a ball at the zoo. Before they left, Carter told me all about what they'd do:
This week, it's been plumbing and electrical! Bring it on, boys!
Andy is also meeting with Chad, our builder, to figure out the basement. It will be framed out by the end of the day (crazy!), and drywall in the house will begin later next week.
(What will be) My sink, on the left and Andy's sink, on the right. You'll be able to tell them apart easily: mine will be clean, except for the red hair in the sink, and Andy's will be a mess, with beard-stubble and toothpaste around the sink rim!
I know - what a mess! I'm so impressed by electricians! I don't get it!

This is our neighbor .. or .. we're his neighbor, I guess. He was here first. When I came out of the house today, he was perched atop our street light. As I walked to get a closer look at him, he'd fly to the next lamp, but never away. What an awesome neighbor!
Bubbles! Bubbles! Bubbles!

Belly-bubble flop!

Andy started the fun game: "Blow the Bubbles," which turned into Carter's version of "Wear the Bubbles!"
There's something on your face, Daddy ..
.. Mommy's get a bit, too ..
Extra crispy or original recipe, Col??
Thursday, at 8am, Matt Schafer of the JDR Group received an offer from a newly-married family of four. They love our house.
After going back and forth all mornin
